Tennessee does not have Indian land of federally-recognized tribes within its borders.  It is one of only 3 states that specifies considerations for AI/AN youth in its juvenile court purpose clause.  ICWA protections apply to custody matters related to child abuse and neglect proceedings, but specifically not for delinquency matters. See TN ST §37-1-101

The Tennessee Commission on Children and Youth completed an assessment in 2012 for the whole state. Data was assessed from 2011 for African American and all minority youth. Decision points assessed included referral, diversion, detention, petition, delinquent finding, probation, confinement, and transfer to adult court. Research methods included surveys, descriptive statistics, and multivariate analysis.
